Who is Genie?

Genie is my best friend. More than that she is a precious child of God. She is a sweet heart, a kind of friend who loves me so unselfishly. We met in the dormitory when we were in college. I really didn't know how we started to become friends. I had my own set of friends then but for some reason, I was drawn more to her and her sister. I became closer to them and from then on, we were never apart in heart. They would always care for me. They would always tease me. Even so, I do LOVE their company. They seem to have this love that is so different. They care so deeply. I knew I was loved. I knew I found true friends.

We stayed together for a year in the dormitory. We did so many things together - ate breakfast and dinner, watched tv, danced and sang together, munched on some snacks at night, laughed together, cried together, read the Bible together, learned about the Lord together, worshiped the Lord together, shopped together, walked together, name it all. I can say those days were one of the best days of my life. There was no hypocrisy in our friendship. It was such a gift from above!

One of the most memorable moment I had with Gen was when I left for home at 1-2 in the morning. She woke up and walked me out. I still remember her face as I said good bye. Then when I came back from home, I would see her waiting for me. Talk to me about a true friend! Even remembering it now brings tears to my eyes. When I am sick, they are there for me. She, together with her sister has probably seen the worst in me. (Ahem!) We share so many things together. and even though life has brought us to different trials, God has kept us together.

Eventhough we were only together physically for one year, the memories that God has given us is so PRECIOUS that it could amount to 10 years. Just imagine! That is how special the friendship is. That is how special she is to me.

It has been 7 years since I left the country but God still has us together. One of the most beautiful thing about the friendship is that it is from God and it is built with Christ at the center. No wonder it is so pure and precious! God is the ONE that knitted us together. Until now, though we are apart, we continue to build the friendship. Genie, aka Green Peas, is such a sweet gift from the Lord, one of the MOST cherished treasure that I have. One of the biggest blessing in my life.

Through all these years, she is the one who can tell me the truth even if it hurts. She is the one whom I know accepts my own imperfections and mistakes and still love me. She is the one who encourages me to grow closer in the Lord. She is the one who I know I can depend on for the rest of my life. I know for sure that nothing can separate us. And I AM GRATEFUL for MY ONE OF KIND GENIE BEE.
